Even as a spectator i could read Venom like an open book, and from he's pov i would guess he would be top 20 in EU. Reload is good no doubt, but he lacks in hes routine sometimes, and that would be fatal if he was up against an decent EU player. only watched dm2 dm4:)

I really enjoy these games. This is how qw was ment to be played. Alot of action, alot of kills!

Still Lockesmocke, top 20 in EU wouldn't be that bad, consideringing the 256 attendees in duelmania for example (and there he'd probably rank higher than that, due to the lack of decent duelers).

Ven definately knows his qw well, even though he might not show his full capacity in these demos.

At no point during the entire ten minutes of the DM6 duel did Reload establish level control in way, shape, or form. Many components of the tactics employed, including no attempts at item timing, and the opening spawn strategy are highly dubious. The bout was won strictly on Reload's superior aim.

I'm positive these tactics would not prevail versus top opponents demonstrating solid item control from any part of the world, Europe or otherwise.

Having said that, it is impossible to make conclusions from games played just for fun, as opposed to competetive games under tournament circumstances. The only true way of determining a players worth is by pitting him against the best, as opposed to making indirect comparisons.

Easy, just go and download any demos from TGI and youll realise that on for example DM2, against the worlds best Eurors, he was undefeated. Yes UNDEFEATED on this map.

Only reason dm4 and 6 were not included was at the time, Re's sensitivity was extremely high back then and the maps (dm2 and 6) were not played to the extent that dm2 was in AU at the time. Reason being that during TGI AU was still primarily on 56K connections, at the time that Eu was already on broadband, perfecting their LPB shafts. Another TGI would show RE getting the same scores on dm4 and 6 as he did on dm4.

I know many players that would have a big chans beating Venom, thats what i meant by he would be top 20 in EU. Def; So what if Reload doesn't 'establish level control in way, shape, or form', he doesn't need to! Reloads style of play is HIS way of controlling the map, just because you can't identify or understand how he plays so well without simply recylcing every other players style of play, doesn't mean it doesn't work. Who the fuck wants to watch a demo where a player just continually runs items? Reload runs items when he needs to and this seems to work exceptionallpy well for him, perhaps more so due to his uncanny aim and ability to pull of WTF shots and moves. If his aim wasn't so hot then maybe you would have a point, but it is (even with a 38 ping vs a 12 ping opponent), so stfu.

And that's the best thing about Reloads style of play, its free flowing, fun to watch and results in some of the most enjoyable demos to watch - its obvious he is playing for fun instead of completely concentrating on playing like prick style like EU players tend to do.

Watch, and learn from the DM2 master.

I think you have misunderstood me. I'm not bashing on Reload. I did point out that he was more than likely not playing seriously since these games were for fun.

My point was aim is insignificant when you have no weapons and armor to go along with it. It doesn't matter if you are an aimbot, or Reload (close), if you don't control the level, you aren't going to win. That's pretty obvious. If aim was all that mattered, the best povdmm4 players would win all the dueling tourneys, and we all know that isnt the case.

Phil, the point of def's post was to say that this demo, in particular, is not a good representation of reload's skill. I agree with def - +forward qw with good aim doesn't show all that much. Furthermore, I'd say that I havn't seen a Reload demo in a very long time that actually shows how good he is. Don't take that the wrong way - I know damn well Reload is a good player, it's just that skills he shows off in these demos on chtv aren't the only skills required to win high end games in qw.

The most dominant player in AU right now as far as I can tell from the demos posted on cha-tv is Mortuary *not* Reload. Granted, in time we all hope to see "Rusty" Reload's skill catch up with his reputation and reclaim his position as Australia's best.

I also find it interesting that there's a few players from AU who are criticizing the manner in which Euros play. To me, Mortuary's aggressive style is pretty much a cookie cutter rendition of Dag's. Although Dag exhibits a far better defensive game than Mort does.

I also totally agree with the arguments of Kovaak and Def. These demos do not highlight Re's ability to perform at a competitive level. We've seen Reload perform far better than this. If you AU guys really want to give us a sense of Re's skill, show us some games against Mortuary. At least with Mortuary we can benchmark how well his opponents are playing because as I already said, Mortuary's style of play is compatible with what Euro's know to be skill.

I only stopped to read def, Kovaak, phil, oneshotflinch. The rest I just glanced at.

def brought up some good points. Kovaak agreed with him. Phil upped his count for the 2006 compilation of chtv posts :)

I have never seen a Reload, Griffen, Locktar, Venom, Dag demo. The list of players who are famous goes on and I have only seen very few of them play. Mostly ones who have come to america to play (seese, para) and the top american players def, kov, yog, all those once in clan ag the new clan boss.

I find the top americans play VERY well. When I go to Europe I see different maps being played and much much lower pings, so I see them playing differently.

For instance when I saw seese play dm4 standing in the middle of the map I thought he was gonna get owned. I was thinking american, when his 13 ping shaft kicked in I knew I was wrong. Most of the europeans style of play was boosted by their ping.

I have no clue about Australian play. None whatsoever but I know plenty of big names from there. I'm sure ping has dominated their style of play as well.

In the end I think that euros would have a greater advantage LAN, because they literally play at that ping level. Americans, content with the 40-50 ping playing level would need to take some time to adjust to a new style of play at the much lower ping.

I didn't even touch Australians so don't flame me about Reload or Venom or any other Australian player.

#111 - the only way we are going to see who is better out of Reload or Mortuary is on LAN, which is very doable as they are both reside in the same country.

Reloads connection isn't the greatest and Morts is a health <25 so online just doesn't cut it for this sort of match up.

Reloads got so much friggen competition experience (and success, might I add) that I highly doubt Mort would win overall. Reload is the pivot of Australian QW and has dominated the Australian QW scene since 98.

I agree with Mort above me in that if anyone wanted to LAN in melbourne id be there for sure. Some of us mcross the states and meet up for the weekend and hang out, have a few drinks and perhaps play some quakeworld. During the weekend when we play no one ever really takes screenshots or demos it is playing just for fun. I usually lose in duels to these guys but the games are always heaps of fun. Usually after them there will be a smoke or drink afterwards highlighting the amusing moments of the game. Good times :)

I for one enjoy watching your game evolve because I think you're a very talented player. It's a shame having to hear that you don't take to the competitive side of QW because I think it could raise your game to an unprecented level. I too am a musician (I play electric guitar) which has afforded me the opportunity to converse with lots of artistic types many of which are too opposed to the notion of competition. The artists I spoken with tend to take a blown-up interpretation of being competitive and put it into an extreme situation. An example would be you have three people competing to win a prize let's say worth $1 million and of the 3 there happens to be one exceptionally strong person who the other two are covinced they will inevitably lose to. Collaboratively the two premeditate killing this stronger one in his/her sleep.

I would call this destructive competition to the extreme. Competition doesn't have to be completely stripped of morals, and be brother killing brother, and at the end of the day justified with "business is business". Healthy competition is more a state of being at competition with oneself. Taking your game to the next level and playing at your full potentional. In this mindset, your competition becomes nothing more than obstacles that are challenging you in areas that you are weak, so that you may become stronger. In this sense your competition is really your friend and not your enemy.

Similarly debate can be constructive/deructive as well. It has been said that:
"Allowing the voicing of different opinions and reaching common understanding through debate is the basic requirement of modern democratic politics."
Looking to learn through debate rather than win through debate can prove extremely rewarding and enlightening. Mastering the state of discrepency is an art unto itself.

Ofcourse the level of play reached its max during the TGI days.
Playing a game professinally and playing competitions for money creates a big competetiveness among the players.
I remember reading about Lakerman who played 7 hrs every day to get in shape for theese tournaments. Ofcourse the players of today would beat the players back then. But the effort put in to the game isnt anywhere near now what it was then.
A top player of today wouldnt even finish in top 10 on fragzone ffa server.

#146: There's a couple of different spins you could take off this. One spin being a sort of a Netquake Single Player, with Quakeworld Multi-player gameplay. Let's be honest Id failed miserably on the SP version of Quake. The only reason Quake got off the ground and was so successful was because of the multi-player side.

Basically Id should totally revamp NQ single player using the latest in physics technology with all new monsters, levels, and missions. The story should be revamped too, because it makes no sense and basically sucks.

The AI, SP levels and gameplay would use a similar format to Q1 but the difference would be like watching a black and white 12" tv to going to full color plasma 50" tv with totally amped up interaction.

The multiplayer side would introduce the latest in Id GFX, with cool looking/sounding revisions of the weapons with a few new weapons which could optionally be used in the original qw MP levels. The gameplay and physics would be kept totally intact but Id would also introduce many new MP levels and tons of new MP mods. Also they would release a really user friendly mod building kit for creating levels with advanced shader support, custom models, static meshes, and an advanced scripting environment for changing gameplay, physics, etc. Optionally level building and modelling could be done in Maya and then exported -> the New QW engine using a plugin.

Hopefully Id would also be smart enough to port over the KTPro mod and fuhquake client side options as well.

This spin would be along the lines of "Quakeworld Revisited"

The alternative spin is to create a successive game off of QW and called it Quakeworld II in the same vain of Quake II, III, and IV. Basically QWII would have a similar multiplayer aspect as proposed in the aforementioned spin, but it would be all completely new levels, new weapons while maintaining the same fast and furious shoot-em-up gameplay and accelerated bhop movement.

Don't get me wrong I love QW just how it is, but Id releasing a new version of the game would help in keeping QW alive by offering new tournies, leagues and a community that's alive and thriving.

Also if a game came out that offered everything QW provides you, that's also new and exciting, you fuckers would drop QW in a heartbeat. If you say otherwise you're lying to yourself and everyone else.

Wow... when I first started watching QW demos, QW was already at a high level, and ever since I've been hearing this "QW is dying" sentences. I now realize why. I'll stick to speedrunning as I've done for so many years now, thank god the community is so small and there's no "flamewars"... ;)

hehe, the good old argument once again! :) sure reload is really good, and whether or not he would beat the top euros we will most likely never find out. however, when i was in oz i went to warts and i played venom 1on1 (atleast there was a guy there looking like the fonz who called himself venom, im sure its the same guy) and i beat him. on top of that im not even a duel player. i played dirtbox and harlsom aswell at the time, and both ended up beating me but the games were fairly close. However, vs top players in europe I get raped, and i get raped badly. Its just stupid to think that that a scene with just a few active players would be better than a scene which is active with heaps of players. further more, i reckon reload has an exceptional talent for qw, like many others, and that if he would have played as much as the top euros he would probably be as good as them, but the fact is that he did come over and play back in the day and he lost. And since then reload has played less and less so unless youse want to back up your words with actions i suggest you just keep quiet. ah one more thing, how come aussies never post stuff with their real nicks? Like someone said earlier in the thread it would be nice to see what top player in au think.

Thats why there have been 375 downloads and 188 comments.

His play style is a good talking point. I think reload vs a top euro would be a close score but I think he would pull it out in the end. Euros rely to much on level control. Where as reload relys more on hunting you and maximising his score. with armor ammo picked up only when its needed. This gives him more attacking time. When he has the advantage. He really exploits his advantage and doesn't play a waiting game for frags. You can see this in alot of he replays, its one of the reasons why he is entertaining to watch.

I have nothing against euros or their play styles. Its just in every situation that someone has believed they could beat him consistantly they all got proven wrong.

Both reload and top euros both have great aim but you take the aim out of it and it will be the playstyle that would win out in the end.

1. 188 comments could be because Aussies are a chatty bunch. Also people are going for a comment record.
2. 375 downloads may just be some Aussie clicking the download link over and over for all we know.
3. You can say whatever you want about your local heros, the Americans may have a couple of bullets as well who could take Reload or anyone else down too using the same reasoning.
4. Ranting "our hero is the best" isn't going to bring about any ultimate decision. The only way this dispute would ever be resolved is if Reload were to play the top Euros with even pings (like that is ever going to happen)
5. We still haven't even seen Reload dominate Mortuary. Until he can cleanly defeat Mortuary what makes anyone think he can take down EU's best? Just because Venom took down Mort on an off night doesn't mean Reload will be as lucky.

Also to beat the top most downloaded demo you'd have to do at least 1 better than an EU game with a whopping 4451 dl's.

Well its not entirely true that euros only play "tight" as we call it here in AU. I've seen some 100% perecent +forward rush games between Griffin and Mrlame and also Dag vs Striker. Also Griffin vs UL. Do a search on this site and you'll find those demos. And if you are reffering to that dm2 demo from qhlan (dag and locktar), yes I agree with you, that was one of the most boring demos ever. Basically dag just played to win and that was it.
But yeah its true, euros generally tend to play more tight than us.
