Once every so often Quakeworld throws us a mystery that's difficult to wrap your brain around.

Mystery: Cyan's recent degenerate skill
Case Files: Recent Americup2 games. Particularly the Def vs Cyan & FayD vs Cyan
Possible Reasons: Rusty; Computer Problems; Opponents have improved in leaps; Unknown cheat/hack dispelled with due to sudden shift in maturity

It is known that Cyan took some time off QW but in my opinion not enough to warrant such serious a decline in skill. In my own personal experience when I take a break from QW I come back stronger than ever, albeit this may not be the case for Cyan. However, such a decline in skill within this sort of time-frame is still puzzling none-the-less.

Does anyone else have any possible explanations/comments they would like to offer on this matter?

I don't think it's so much a decline in skill as it is fayd's increase in skill. He hasn't just improved in a single aspect either - his aim, movement, and strategy have all gotten quite a bit better. I'm looking forward to what he can do in the loser's bracket.

If you don't believe me, just wait until I play him next week - I'm guessing they will be pretty close games as well.

I guess we will have to see if that's really the case. No offense whatsoever to FayD but I have a hunch you will destroy him. That's not to say he hasn't made some durastic improvements since he started playing.

keep in mind fellas kovaak and fayd are a 2v2 team, so that might answer why fayd is so good :D

No offence to fayd, but I played him with a 160 ping on dm4 having never heard of him, with his 27 ping he managed to beat me by 4 or 5, I am like a mediocre dueller here in euro, sorry about the sour grapes! maybe it just isn't his map..

The other day he played Kovaak on 4 major maps. I wont mention any scores but I will say that the score differences were often less then 10.

FayD does not sleep. He waits.

KovaaK can win a game of Connect Four in only three moves.

I believe I mistook FayD to be another player. I mixed him up with Zang (who seems to go by many alias) who I know to be a newcomer to the QW scene. Although this does not totally demystify my argument against Cyan, it does weaken it somewhat. FayD as I now know it, is a friend of Kovaak's from Quake3.

I apologize for the mix up and wish both Kov and FayD the best of luck on their upcoming matches.

I was very hpb, spiking up to 300, I was surprised how seriously he was taking the game, thats why I made the comment... its quite normal for Americans to take HPBs seriously now with nicks they don't recognise.
